Switchboard Upgrades & Faults
Old fuse boards, tripping breakers, burning smells — we repair and upgrade switchboards across Wellington, Hutt Valley & Porirua.
Warning signs
Is your switchboard trying to tell you something?
Breaker keeps tripping
A breaker that won't stay on means an overloaded circuit or a hidden fault. We trace the cause with proper test equipment.
Burning smell or heat
A hot or smelly switchboard is a fire risk. Switch off the main breaker and call us immediately. Never ignore this.
Old ceramic fuses
Ceramic fuse boards are decades out of code. They offer no personal protection and can't handle modern power demands.
Flickering lights
If lights flicker across the house, your board may have loose terminals, degraded bus bars, or undersized mains.
Upgrade
What's included in a switchboard upgrade?
We replace old fuse boards with modern, compliant switchboards featuring RCBO protection, surge suppression, and clearly labelled circuits. Most upgrades are completed in a single day with minimal disruption to your power.
Modern RCBOs — individual circuit protection with earth-leakage safety.
Surge protection — guards your appliances and electronics from voltage spikes.
Adequate capacity — room for EV chargers, heat pumps, and future additions.
Full compliance — certified to AS/NZS 3000 with paperwork supplied.
Clean, labelled layout — every circuit clearly marked for easy identification.
Future-proofed — space and capacity for home expansions and new circuits.

Questions
Frequently asked.
How fast can you get to me?
We aim to be on-site within 60 minutes anywhere in Wellington City, Hutt Valley, Porirua and the Kāpiti Coast. For genuine emergencies — power out, sparking sockets, burning smell — we drop everything and roll.
Are you available after hours?
Yes. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A real local sparky picks up — not a call centre. After-hours callouts attract a small surcharge; we'll tell you the exact price before we start.
Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. We're Licensed Master Electricians registered with the EWRB, fully insured, and every job is certified to AS/NZS 3000 standards.
What should I do if a socket starts sparking or smoking?
Switch off the main breaker at the switchboard, unplug anything in that socket if it's safe to reach, keep people clear, and call us straight away on 04 885 3562. Do not use the socket until we've inspected it.
What services do you cover?
Switchboard upgrades, fault finding, power outage repairs, hot water cylinder repairs, EV charger installation, smoke alarm installation, lighting design and install, dead sockets, and all general residential and light commercial electrical work.
How much do you charge?
Honest, upfront pricing — we quote before we start. No surprise bills. Free quotes for larger jobs.
